The whole family loved this holiday. I loved the space and facilities in the house and learning badminton in the airy sports barn.
Dad enjoyed the sunsets, bbq, reading at the pool or jigsaws in the spacious lounge.
Eldest son, in a wheelchair, enjoyed being able to come on holiday with us – the house was fully wheelchair accessible, and the owners were able to cheaply hire a hoist for us to use.
Middle son enjoyed the pool and all the sports facilities in the barn – badminton, swingball, table tennis, basketball and just wished mum and dad had more energy.
Youngest daughter enjoyed the pool, playing with the guests from the other gite and eating outside.

We originally chose the gite to accommodate my father who is disabled, but enjoyed it so much that when we were arranging a holiday with some friends, we didn’t look anywhere else.
All the kids had a ball, learning to swim and riding bikes, rescuing frogs, canoeing, exploring and playing. Similarly the adults had a great time because the kids were so well amused. The gite is very well equipped and the surroundings are idyllic; the pool is just a few steps away and Paul and Charlotte go to great efforts to make it feel like a home from home. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend la Baie to anyone, young or old, couples or families, those who like to get out and about, or those who simply want to read a good book, drink a glass of wine and relax. Fabulous. We’ll definitely be back.

We had a family holiday at Le Chène, there were nine of us all together and there was plenty of room for us all without feeling like you had no space of your own. The gite was very comfortable and the grounds were just as good. Paul and Charlotte are very welcoming and helpful with suggestions of places to go and visit. There are plenty of activities and places to see for both adults and children. We had a few lazy hours watching some dvd’s on some very comfy sofas and had a few afternoons using the archery equipment. The two children (7 and 9) enjoyed feeding the chickens and learning to play Uno (one of the many games around to play). We all enjoyed used of the pool on a daily basis. We made use of the bikes available and had plenty of BBq’s looking out onto a wonderful view. I am often asked by the children ‘when are we going back to France?’ as they and we all had such a good time. We definitely hope to visit again soon.

We stayed in La Charrière with an extended family group of 17 people. It is amazing that such a large group of people ranging in age from 18 mths to 70 years could all enjoy themselves thoroughly in one place. Also one of our party is confined to a wheelchair and this posed no problems as the property is totally accessible.
Everything about La Charrière is fantastic, from the peaceful rural setting to the remarkable facilities. The pool is brilliant as is the barn with table tennis, table football, snooker and even a badminton/basketball court for a break from the sunshine or the occasional rainy day.
Internally the gites are very well equipped with all the appliances you could need as well as ample seating and remarably comfortable beds. The provision of satelite TV with English channels was a bonus.
Our hosts Paul and Charlotte live on site and were always friendly and extremely helpful. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them.

We returned to La Charrière again this summer – our fourth visit – for another fantastic holiday. We stayed in the bigger gite with my brother and sister-in-law and kids. The gite is very spacious, comfortable and well-equipped. Lots of bathrooms are very helpful with lots of little children! The seating terrace and BBQ area, which overlooks fields at the rear of the house is so peaceful. We have lovely memories of watching the sun go down with a glass of wine! The swimming pool area is very well maintained and a good size with two boxes full of bits and bobs for the children to play with in the water. We all enjoyed the play barn. Great toys for the children and sporting equipment for the adults. We really did mean to play badminton but kept finding ourselves back on that terrace with the wine… We loved using the bikes (huge range to choose from) and the roads are so quiet that we could go on long rides with even our beginner, wobbly rider. We love the location. It is very peaceful and you really feel away from it all. Good shop in village. Nearby town has a bigger supermarket and everything else you might need. We loved a day trip to Parc de la Vallee for the children – very reasonable, great rides including loads for tiny ones and hardly any queues. Also like the local swimming pool with slides and the lake. This year we tried canoeing on the river which was a great success. Paul and Charlotte are wonderful hosts and always on hand to help out with bike problems, cuddle wailing infants, organise canoe trips, offer advice on local wine selection and pop in with delicious fresh veg from their garden etc etc!! We’ve booked again for next year. Perfect family holiday.

We had a wonderful multi-generational family holiday at La Charriere. We stayed in Le Chene, which is the larger of the two gites, and there was more than enough room for everyone (six adults and three very lively children). Paul and Charlotte were our lovely hosts and they had thought of everything – often you have to rush out to buy tea towels, washing up liquid etc., but it was all there! La Charriere was the perfect spot for all three generations to have a really fun time. The children were in and out of the pool all day long, then speeding off on the bicycles for a ride in the gorgeous countryside. Evenings were spent playing table tennis and basketball in the barn and the little ones were even treated to a ride on Paul’s tractor, which they loved.
There are loads of really interesting places to visit – Saumur, Chinon, Angers to name a few. However, if all you want to do is swim, cycle, sunbathe and relax then you really don’t need to leave La Charriere. The beds were really comfy, nearly all the bedrooms are en suite, the kitchen was huge and very well equipped, the lounge was really comfortable (and there was English telly!) there were lots of outdoor tables, chairs and loungers – plus a gas barbeque.
Paul and Charlotte know the area really well and were able to book us tables in local restaurants and advise us regarding supermarkets and other amenities. They really don’t mind how much you pester them! We look forward to returning.
